Flat Stanley Visits Chisholm Trail Heritage Center

Flat Stanley traveled all the way to Duncan, Oklahoma to see the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center.

The Chisholm Trail was a trail used in the late 19th century to drive cattle overland from ranches in Texas to Kansas railheads. The portion of the trail marked by Jesse Chisholm went from his southern trading post near the Red River, to his northern trading post near Kansas City, Kansas. Texas ranchers using the Chisholm Trail started on that route from either the Rio Grande or San Antonio, Texas, and went to the railhead of the Kansas Pacific Railway in Abilene, Kansas, where the cattle would be sold and shipped eastward.
The trail is named for Jesse Chisholm, who had built several trading posts in what is now western Oklahoma before the American Civil War. Immediately after the war, he and the Lenape Black Beaver collected stray Texas cattle and drove them to railheads over the Chisholm Trail, shipping them back East to feed citizens, where beef commanded much higher prices than in the West.

Flat Stanley Attends Samboree

k

The Good Sam Club is an RV club. Flat Stanley attended this years Samboree for the Oklahoma Chapter in Claremore, Oklahoma.

The Modern Wagoneer Sam Chapter of the Metro Oklahoma City area invited Flat Stanley along for this camping trip. He was the only one small enough to put the light bulb in the Lighthouse that the chapter raffled off.

j

Flat Stanley waiting by the camper door since he knows he cannot go into the Will Rogers Downs Cherokee Casino here at the horse track. Not till he's an adult. He don't even care he's just happy to see the neon sign light up when the sun went down.

Flat Stanley Visits OKC Memorial

Flat Stanley has been so busy traveling he's finally able to catch you up on his travels. In October, Flat Stanley took a day trip to the Oklahoma City Memorial.

In memory of...

The bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995, killed 168 people, including 19 children, and injured more than 650. The memorial is a public/private partnership erected so that the American public can honor the memory of the victims, their families, the survivors, and their rescuers.

Flat Stanley made a new friend, the park ranger that said he enjoys seeing so many Flat Stanleys come to visit him at the Memorial each year.
